I am stuck on one of my last medical school applications because I am not sure what to write about. Here is the prompt: "What makes you special, someone who will add to the Mount Sinai community?" This prompt has given me a lot of trouble, more so than any other. This is because I need to write an essay that isn't full of cockiness and arrogance, yet at the same time I have to show that I am a unique person that will bring something to Mount Sinai Medical School. I turn this over to all of you because I am not sure what to write about and all of my friends and family say generic things to write about.
What do you think makes me special?

I think you should let me write that essay for you. LOL! I will tell them why you are brilliant. The last thing you have ever come off as is "Cocky or arrogant" I think if you just talk about yourself that you will shine through.
You are incredibly interesting and well rounded. You don't just take things at face value. You look beyond the obvious answers and seek deeper meaning to the events of you life and others.
I think your experiences as a patient dealing with difficult health issues give you a level of empathy and compassion for others that not many doctors truly understand at a fundamental level. You provide a unique perspective and an insightful background with which to frame your medical profession. All the best! :)
